We were brought here with friends who frequent diners here ar Sun Nong Dong. Located in a strip mall, ample parking was available. They arrived earlier than us we didn't have to wait long for a table. They ordered to huge dishes and both were huge portions and tasted amazing! Service was good even though they were packed. Will definitely go back here when in LA.
Sun Nong Dan offers a clean atmosphere and excellent staff. I initially tried the oxtail soup, which was somewhat disappointing due to its lack of flavor. However, the galbi jim truly made up for it, especially with the cheese add-on, which enhanced the entire experience. The fire show that comes with the cheese addition adds to the excitement, and the bowl itself is packed with flavor and a variety of meats. This spot is ideal for large parties, and I look forward to returning.
Visitation Rights: Been to this location about 4 times. Credit Cards: They're accepted Restrooms: They're available for use. Location/Parking: Located in the NW corner of the plaza next to the 168 Supermarket. Parking can be found in the plaza or in neighboring streets or along Las Tunas Blvd. Ambiance/Decor: Pretty neat decor with modern furnishings. Service: Service was pretty decent. The last experience we did see a dead fly in our water jug. The staffer was apologetic and gave us another water dispenser. Food Of Choice: Most of the soups and other entree's come with banchan (Kimchi, pickled radish, pickled onions, and leek. 1) Large Koh Galbi Jjim with extra oxtail: Three types of meat (braised beef short rib, back ribs, and oxtail are present in this bad boy. For an extra $25, you get extra oxtail. Absolutely delicious. You'll definitely have meat sweats after you're done with this entree. 6 grown men will be able to finish this plate. As for the spice level, we decided on mild. I thought it was the right spice level. Also, I did like the fillers (tteokbokki and potato). Might be a bit salty, but that's where the water and barley tea dispensers come into play. 2) Do Ga Ni Tang (ox knee soup) and Sulung Tang (beef soup): I usually rotate between these two soups depending on my mood. They're equally good and it's a great a deal ($11.99) when you can patronize the shop between 6am-1030am for their breakfast special. Soups might be a bit bland, but there is salt and pepper available to use. Sun Nong Dan For Thought: Love the soups that I've tried and the Koh Galbi Jjim. Wouldn't mind coming back to order them again.
My go to place when I'm craving a comforting bowl of hot soup. This location is in a decent size plaza so there are plenty of free parking. It's also open late into the night which is nice. On average, I've only waited at most 15 minutes to be seated. Granted, my party size is usually 2-4. There are plenty of single and large tables so Sun Nong Dan is able to accommodate large parties. Now to the food. If you're looking for a location with no frills and just good food, this is your place! They have total of 15 soup, namely made up of ox tail, beef bones, and different cuts of meats. My go to orders are usually the #s 1 (Yang Ji Sulung Tang), 2 (Chadol Sulung Tang), 12 (Tta Roh Guk Bap), and 13 (Yuk Gae Jang) with the last two being on the spicier side. Your soup orders are served with spicy kimchis (cabbage and radish), and some freshly cut onions, and you get to choose between plain white rice or purple rice. The broths are so rich in flavor that all you need to add for seasoning is a bit of salt and pepper. They also have larger, shareable dishes such as their plates of boiled cuts of meat and of course the Galbi Jjim, which includes braised beef with potatoes, onions, rice cakes and carrots. You have the option to add cheese to the dish which most people tend to do. Overall, the quality of the food, taste and service is what keeps me coming back to Sun Nong Dan!
My friend has been raving about this place and so when I visited SoCal this time we visited it at 11 pm. Service was prompt and friendly, environment was clean (even the bathroom at 11pm!) respect! The food was impeccable.
This place is our go-to after a long day at Disneyland or a concert! It's one of the few spots open late (24 hours!) post-pandemic, and we were pleasantly surprised to see it bustling at 10 PM on a Sunday. I ordered the #3 bone broth, which came packed with assorted beef like brisket and tendon, plus clear noodles in a rich broth. The complementary white or purple rice was a nice touch, and I loved the banchan to snack on while waiting. The also provide salt and green onions on the table let me customize my soup perfectly. I couldn't finish my meal, but the waitress was super helpful and expertly packed my leftovers. It's a great spot for a warm, comforting soup on a chilly evening, but can also be enjoyed in hot weather, thanks to the invention of air conditioning.
I was looking up dinner spots in Korea Town but emotionally dreading the commute. Multiple friends had recommended this company so I was about to embrace the crowd, until I realized they have a location AWAY from the horrific evening LA traffic. Not sure if the quality of different location varies, but my friends and I still had a great time at this branch. We shared a medium galbi jjim with cheese among the 3 of us and still had leftovers. This place is open 24hours, I'd love to visit one day at 3AM and check out who's awake for galbi jjim haha.
We got seated immediately for a weekend lunch. I feel like this was the best Korean place I ever been to. I don't normally enjoy beef too much, but I got the Galbitang. They gave SOOOOOO much beef brisket and galbi. I felt like the galbi was slightly hard to chew, but the taste was phenomenal. Beef brisket was the right texture, which I could not stop eating. The soup was light but savory, and felt so comforting to drink. The place also gave a decent amount of banchan and I appreciated the purple rice. I really loved the food here!
